The continent of Atlantis was an island
which lay before the great flood
in the area we now call the Atlantic Ocean.
Atlantis was a city and island that by the wrath of the Gods was sunk into the sea. First records of Atlantis appear in Plato's dialogues and at that time all of the known oceans were considered as one ocean (not seven seas then). That one ocean was of course what we now call the Atlantic ocean. Scientifically there has never been any proof that it did exist. On the other hand, it was also never proven that it did not exist. Either way, supposing it did exist at one time, the location is still disputed and there are many different theories as to its actual location. |
