Styx, Lorelei Print E-mail

When I think of Lorelei my head turns all around
As gentle as a butterfly she moves without a sound
I call her on the telephone, she says be there by eight
Tonight's the night she's moving in and I can hardly wait

The name “Lorelei” can refer either to the rock in the Rhine, mythical tales of a creature luring ships to sail upon that specific rock or it can refer to mermaids.

The way she moves, ooh-ooh
I gotta say
Lorelei let's live together
Brighter than the stars forever
Lorelei let's live together
Brighter than the stars forever

Let's assume they are singing about the creature from the rock, I can certainly see that she is very alluring. Like the syrenes from the Greek myths, she lures sailors and ships to wreck themselves on the rock. In fact the very word Lorelei comes from the verb “lure” and the word “ley” (the latter meaning stone or rock).

Her eyes become of Paradise, she softly speaks my name
She brightens every lonely night, no one's quite the same
She calls me on the telephone, she says be there by eight
Tonight's the night she's moving in, it's time to celebrate

The way she moves, ooh-ooh
I gotta say
Lorelei let's live together
Brighter than the stars forever

Lorelei let's live together
Brighter than the stars forever
